A. Bernard Ackerman, a founding figure in the field of dermatopathology who trained a generation of doctors to recognize skin diseases under the microscope, died Friday(2008/12/11) at his home in Manhattan. He was 72.
A. Bernard Ackerman, M.D.A. Bernard Ackerman received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University. After Princeton, he graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, did his residency training in dermatology at Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard University, and then completed a fellowship in dermatopathology at Harvard. Between 1969 and 1973, he was Director of Dermatopathology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. From 1973 to 1993 he was Director of Dermatopathology at New York University School of Medicine, and from 1993 to 1999, Director of the Institute for Dermatopathology at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. In 1999 he returned to New York City to create the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology, a center devoted to diagnosis, teaching, and advancing the perimeter of knowledge regarding diseases of the skin.
Dr. Ackerman has trained thousands of residents in dermatology, pathology and fellows in dermatopathology, given lectures and courses nationally and internationally, written articles, and crafted books. He founded the International Society of Dermatopathology and two journals, The American Journal of Dermatopathology and Dermatopathology: Practical and Conceptual, served as President of local, national, and international societies of dermatology and dermatopathology, and received awards in recognition of these endeavors. Dr. Ackerman’s intuitive approach, orignal observations and scientifi c contributions have made him one of the most prominent leaders in the field of dermatopathology.
写<<阿克曼外科病理学》(Ackerman's Surgical Pathology)的ACKERMAN 叫Lauren V Ackerman, 是美国Washington University 的教授, Dr. Juan Rosai 是Lauren V Ackerman的学生(Rosai是从Washington University 起家的), Lauren V Ackerman是1993年去世的, 后来Rosai接手Ackerman's Surgical Pathology,所以现在叫Rosai and Ackerman's Surgical Pathology。 |
Correct. Lauren Ackerman of WashU, not Bernard Ackerman, was the first author and editor of <<Ackerman's Surgical Pathology>>.
