- upmc division of molecular anatomic pathology (MAP)
The Division of Molecular Anatomic Pathology is part of the Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Established in December, 2006, the Division provides and coordinates molecular diagnostic service in anatomic pathology at UPMC. The Division offers variety of molecular tests in the area of solid tumor diagnostics. The Division members work in close cooperation with anatomic pathologists and various clinical groups at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to provide and further develop the most advanced molecular anatomic pathology testing.
One of the important missions of the division is to foster an academic environment devoted to enhancement of the molecular progress in anatomic pathology and to support the research activities of the faculty, fellows, and residents in the department and the institution.
Another mission of the Division is to provide training in Molecular Anatomic Pathology for pathology fellows and residents, as well as for medical students. Elective rotations are available for pathology residents. Fellowship training opportunities are available for physicians who have completed and accredited residency in Anatomic Pathology. The program focuses on providing fellows and residents with knowledge necessary to integrate most recent advances in molecular anatomic pathology into routine diagnostic pathology practice.

- Provides most advanced molecular testing in solid tumors, offering a large variety of molecular markers for diagnosis and predicting therapeutic response in tumors of brain, lung, colon, and many other organs.
- Offers to local and national clients a variety of unique molecular tests, such as the laboratory-developed mutational panel for cancer detection in thyroid nodules and double primary tumor test.
- Designs and introduces new molecular tests based on innovative technologies such as SNP array, gene expression array, and miRNA.
- Performs groundbreaking research in various areas of molecular diagnostics of solid tumors, basic mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and DNA repair.
