From August 9-14, 2009, the Rimrock Resort Hotel held the 10th Banff Conference on Allograft Pathology. The Rimrock Resort Hotel is located in the mountain surounded by woods. Approximately 250 renal pathologists, from 30 countries, attended the conference.
This conference focused on a range of solid organ allografts, with a special focus on alloantibody responses and related phenotypes, role(s) of endothelial cells in allograft rejection, phenotyping late kidney transplant deterioration, non-invasive surrogate markers of rejection in various organs, genomics/proteomics approaches, and updates on kidney, pancreas, heart, liver, lung, and composite tissue graft pathology. There were also sessions on quality improvement in biopsy reading and high tech options for maintaining competence in transplant biopsy interpretation.
As an option, there were scenic private conference tours of Banff for delegates and their families. All attendees had the opportunity to participate in poster sessions, case presentations, and many discussions related to plenary and organ-specific sessions.
The objectives of this conference are: - to review classifications for kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas and composite
tissue graft allograft pathology. - to discuss and conceptualize alloantibody responses and related phenotypes.
- to discuss genomics/proteomics approaches to rejection diagnosis.
- to review and update information about non-invasive surrogate markers of rejection
in various organs. - to present and discuss role(s) of endothelial cells in allograft rejection.
- to discuss phenotyping of late kidney transplant deterioration.
- to discuss quality improvement in biopsy reading and high tech options for
maintaining competence in transplant biopsy interpretation.
