I am finally fully settled in to my new apartment, and had a brief conversation with my mover manager, a Pakistani immigrant, about the United States in the late 70s.
He told me back in his times, people were still curious about foreign cultures, still friendly and trusting enough to invite strangers to home, a lot more optimistic about the future, racial news wasn't all over, gender divide wasn't as big, people didn't identify themselves blue or red in the political spectrum, a college degree only cost $4,000 per year, endless parties in the West Coast and sex wasn't a mean to serve a political agenda.
It felt as if I was hearing stories about a different country, and sadly I know these things are still happening elsewhere in this world, in some of the countries I have been visiting to in the past few years. A very sentimental moment just to imagine how it feels like back in the golden age.
