Currently, tumor deposits in the pericolonic soft tissue are classified as lymph node metastases if they are round and smooth in contour (Fig. 23-18). Multiple tumor deposits all with a smooth, round contour are scored as multiple separate lymph nodes. However, if the deposits are irregular in shape, they are best considered evidence of venous invasion
