According to medical experts, people should walk an average of 10,000 steps a day or about 8 km. This will help them maintain a healthy weight.

Latest research from the Office of Statistics shows that almost 75% women and 65% of men do not exercise enough

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare also reported that people are doing less physical exercise .In the past two years, people spent less time walking, from 137 to 144 minutes per week.

Acting on such statistics some companies and government departments are giving pedometers to their works to encourage them to exercise more to stay healthy.

A pedometer is a small battery operated meter which counts the number of steps a people takes. It can be clipped onto a person’s clothes and worn all day.
