Diagnosis of cervical small cell carcinoma, actually all small cell carcinoma in femal genital tract, is essentially based on morphology since synaptophycin and chromagranin immunostains are often negative and not very helpful. As we have only seen couple fields, not sections from all the lesion, whether this is a cervical SCC with focal component of small cell carcinoma or predominantly small cell carcinoma can not be determined here. It also does not make much difference for clinical management between the two, since small cell carcinoma will dictate the clinical prognosis.
