No, we never had this kind of conversation with surgeons!  Lucky or not, i don't know.  I feel we have a very good relationship with our surgeons: they ask for a service, like a frozen section (we can do touch prep of core biopsy so the precious tissue wouldb't be consumed for FS) or rapid interpretation of FNA, we do it, to provide adequacy of specimens and maybe a quick diagnosis.  It eases the anxiety of patients and surgeons. And, yes, we bill for the service we provided!

When they ask for a case not in my hands, i take down the patients name, pass the message to the managing pathologist who will handle it properly.

This scenario happens all the time, but conversation never goes like this.

I have witnessed a very competent yet arrogant neuropathologist talking to a neurosurgeon regarding a frozen section interpretation.  The neuropathologist yelled out to the neurosurgeon: you don't argue with a pathologist!  This became the joke of the year for our residency place!
