In excisional biopsy specimen we report the margins in details for all phyllodes including benign one, the same way as carcinomas.
The specimen should have six margins. So it is inked with six different colours
example;
1. Tumor extends to the xxx (lateral, medial, superior, inferior, anterior, posterior) margin
2. Tumor is <1mm to which margin
3. Tumor is 3 mm to the clostest xx margin
4. All margins are negative for tumor; 8 mm to the clostest xx margin.
This is the way for our report for all invasive tumors, DCIS, all kinds of phylloodes.
If patient has lobular carcinoma in situ, fibroadenoma, we will not report the margins.
